Craftsmanship Highlights

A horse's head carries most of its expression -- the flare of the nostrils, the set of the ears, the muscle under the jaw. Getting that right takes more than a good cast; it takes sculptors who've studied horses for years. That's the difference you'll see in every piece we send out.

The Horse Bust -- Getting the Head Right

Most of a horse's character lives in the head — the flare of a nostril, the depth set into an eye socket, the way the forelock falls. Miss these and you get a shape that looks like a horse. Get them right, and it looks alive.

Our sculptors spend more time here than on any other part of the sculpture. A few things we pay particular attention to:

The eye isn't just a round shape — the orbicularis oculi muscle around it has to be modeled correctly, or the horse ends up looking glassy instead of alert.

Mane strands are carved by hand into the wax, one section at a time, before casting. It's slow work, but it's the only way to get the texture right.

Nostril shape and the cartilage underneath are worked from real equestrian reference photos — not guessed, not simplified.

Facial detail precision on bronze horse head sculpture -- eye and nostril close-up

Facial Detail Precision

The eyes, nostrils, and mane get the most attention. Each feature is refined by hand at the wax stage — this is where a sculpture stops looking like a horse and starts looking like this horse.

Silica sol casting process for bronze horse sculpture

Silica Sol Casting

We use silica sol investment casting instead of sand-casting — it holds finer detail. The shell is smooth enough that things like hair texture and skin folds transfer straight from wax to bronze, with barely any grinding needed after.

Custom patina colour options for bronze horse head sculpture

Custom Patina Finishes

Patina is applied by hand with heat and chemical oxidation, built up in layers rather than sprayed on all at once. Choose from our standard color range, or tell us the tone you're after and we'll match it.

Master Sculptors

Our lead artists keep their own horses at home. Years of feeding, grooming, and simply watching them -- how an ear turns toward a sound, how a jaw muscle shifts before a bite -- taught them more than any reference photo could. That's the difference between a sculpture that looks accurate and one that looks alive.

Sizes & Customization

Sizes range from life size pieces to large-scale gateway installations. Larger pieces are engineered with reinforced bases for outdoor mounting. Just tell us the dimensions and location — we'll take it from there.

Common Size Ranges

Life-size head bronze horse sculpture 80-150 cm scale reference
80-150 cm
Life-Size Head
Sized for tighter outdoor spots — flanking a gate, set into a garden wall, or standing at the corner of a courtyard. Close enough to see the detail, but doesn't need a lot of open ground around it.
Life-Size
Garden and estate bronze horse sculpture 150 cm-3 m scale reference
150 cm - 2.5 m
Garden & Estate
Built for open spaces — driveway entrances, front lawns, the approach to an estate. Proportions are adjusted so it still reads well from a distance, not just up close.
Outdoor
Monumental bronze horse sculpture 3 m-5 m+ scale reference
2.5 m - 5 m+
Monumental
Large gateway or plaza installations — the scale typically used for castle entrances, public memorials, or commercial developments that want a real presence.

Custom from Drawings

Send technical drawings, CAD files, or a detailed sketch — whatever you have. We build a clay model first and get your approval before anything goes to bronze.

Custom from Photos

Send photos of your horse, a breed reference, or a sculpture you admire. We build the clay model directly from those images, matching proportions and markings as closely as possible.

Colour & Patina

We offer a few standard tones — brown bronze, verdigris, balck — plus custom mixes if you have something specific in mind.

Base & Plinth Design

Bases come in marble, bronze, or a bronze base shaped like an irregular rock — depending on the setting. We can also cast a plaque into the base with a name, date, or family crest, whatever you'd like included.

Flexible Size Scaling

Any piece in our catalog can be scaled to the size you need. For anything over 3m, a structural engineer is brought in — outdoor pieces that size need proper footing and wind-load calculations.

Engraving & Inscription

Add a name, date, or short inscription — estate name, breeder details, whatever's meaningful. Characters can be cast directly onto the bronze.

The 5-Meter Bronze Horse Head Sculptures—Imperial Garden

Standing 5 meters tall, this bronze horse head greets visitors at the entrance of Doha's Imperial Garden. Cast using the traditional lost-wax method and finished with a weather-resistant patina, they're built to withstand Qatar's sun and sand for years to come. Shipping and installing pieces this size overseas was no small task — but the horse, a symbol of strength and freedom in Middle Eastern culture, made it worth the effort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from our European and American clients about ordering bronze sculptures from China.

What is silica sol casting and why is it better?

Silica sol casting is an advanced investment casting process that produces superior surface quality compared to traditional water glass casting. It captures finer details, creates smoother surfaces, reduces the need for extensive finishing work, and results in more accurate reproductions of the original sculpture. This process is particularly important for bronze horse sculptures where anatomical precision and surface texture are crucial.

How long does it take to complete a bronze horse sculpture?

For existing models from our library, production typically takes 4-6 weeks. Custom sculptures require 6-10 weeks depending on complexity and size. This includes clay model creation (if needed), casting, finishing, patina application, quality inspection, and professional packing. We provide regular progress photos and videos throughout the process.

What are the shipping costs and delivery times to Europe/USA?

Shipping costs vary by size and destination but typically range from $800-2500 USD for life-size sculptures. Sea freight takes 25-35 days to major ports, while air freight takes 7-10 days but costs significantly more. We handle all export documentation, customs declarations, and coordinate with reliable freight forwarders. Door-to-door delivery can be arranged in most locations.

Do you provide installation services or guidance?

We provide detailed installation instructions, foundation specifications, and assembly guidance with every sculpture. For large or complex installations, we can recommend qualified local contractors in your area or, for significant projects, arrange for our technician to travel for on-site installation. All sculptures include necessary hardware and mounting systems.

What payment terms do you accept for international orders?

We typically work with 50% deposit to begin production and 50% balance before shipping. We accept wire transfers, PayPal for smaller amounts, and can arrange Letters of Credit for large orders. For established clients, we offer flexible payment terms. All pricing is in USD and includes professional packing but excludes shipping and local customs/duties.

How do you ensure quality and handle any issues?

Every sculpture undergoes rigorous quality control at multiple stages. We provide detailed photos and videos for your approval before shipping. Our sculptures come with structural guarantees, and we maintain comprehensive insurance during shipping. If any issues arise, we work directly with clients to resolve them quickly, including repair, replacement, or refund as appropriate.

Can you create sculptures based on photos of specific horses?

Absolutely! We specialize in creating portrait sculptures of beloved horses. We work from multiple high-resolution photos showing different angles, and our skilled sculptors can capture the unique characteristics, personality, and spirit of your horse. This is one of our most popular services for private estates and memorial sculptures.

What maintenance is required for outdoor bronze sculptures?

Bronze is extremely durable and requires minimal maintenance. We apply protective patina and wax coatings that can last 10-15 years in most climates. Annual cleaning with mild soap and water, plus occasional re-waxing, will maintain the sculpture's appearance. We provide detailed care instructions and can supply appropriate maintenance products. Natural weathering and patina development is often considered desirable and adds character over time.
